Aventyn and BMS Hospital Trust Announce mHealth Center

Provides Remote Patient Monitoring and Care Management Services for At-risk Heart Failure Patients with “Vitalbeat”, a Specially Designed Patient Adherence and Monitoring System Using Standard Mobile Medical Technology

WLSA Convergence Summit, San Diego and Bangalore, India – May 23, 2012 Aventyn Inc., an innovative provider of remote patient monitoring and chronic disease management solutions, and BMS Hospital Trust a charitable hospital trust announced the formation of the mHealth Center in Bangalore, India. This announcement was made at the annual WLSA Convergence Summit being held in San Diego.

Heart failure is a common cardiovascular problem which is increasing in both prevalence and incidence globally and is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Management of heart failure patients is complex and has become a priority world over. Effective methods to keep heart failure patients out of the hospital are essential, both in the interests of the patient’s health, as well as to reduce the burden on the health care system.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death in India as well as worldwide. The estimate of total years of life lost due to total cardiovascular disease among the India population aged 35- 64 are higher than comparable countries such as Brazil and China and are predicted to increase from 2000 to 2030, when the differences may become more marked. The economic cost for India is estimated to be in the range of $8.7 billion in 1998 international dollars in 2005 due to CHD and co-morbidities. These estimates increase to $54 billion 1998 international dollars by 2015*. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a comprehensive and integrated approach as the means to preventing and controlling CHD. A rational and sustainable approach requires care coordination in identifying at-risk patients, design personalized strategy for vitals monitoring, promotes diet and medication adherence combined with the right education. The new mHealth Center will focus on deploying innovative solutions where these costs are possible to avoid, utilizing patient-centric mobile health monitoring solutions like Vitalbeat from Aventyn for remote chronic disease management.

The newly announced mHealth Center at the BMS Hospital Trust is part of the Aventyn Health Innovation Ecosystem launched in February 2012. Together with its global strategic partners, Aventyn’s collaboration with the Trust leverage innovative health technologies. The mHealth Center will be dedicated to using clinical evidence based solutions developed by Aventyn sponsored mhealth clinical studies to provide scalable, low cost mobile patient monitoring plans for improved chronic health care and solutions to fight long term disease.

The BMSHT and Aventyn Health Innovation Ecosystem continue to promote health through educational conferences and webinars for sharing training materials and resources. The Innovation Ecosystem help providers, payors and partner companies engage in information sharing and effectively implement practical, globally scalable mobile medical technology solutions.
